Snapshot: Stephanie Tornatore
Occupation: I am a YouTube creator! My husband, Adam, and I have a channel with 500,000-plus followers where we show people how to quickly make delicious and healthy meal prep recipes for one — or the whole family! It’s www.youtube.com/fitcouplecooks. I also make meal prep for local families.
Family: Adam and I have an 18-month-old named Sophie.
Pets: An 11-year-old blind, rescued miniature poodle named Giacomo Poochini — or “Jack” for short. I’ve had Jack since I was in college.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Almost two years. We moved in before we had Sophie and we had a beautiful, peaceful home birth. Newtown will always have a special place in our hearts.
What do you like to do in your free time? Free time? With a toddler? Ha! Sophie and I love watching Elmo’s World, learning our alphabet, taking walks around the block, and playing at Dickinson Park.
What is your favorite book? The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It changed my life almost a decade ago; it’s all about the law of attraction. I recommend it to everyone I meet.
What is your favorite travel destination? Mykonos, Greece. Adam and I stayed there for two weeks and can’t wait to go back.
What is the best part about Newtown? I love the parks here! The best parks around!
Who is your favorite musical artist? Current playlist includes Moana, Frozen, and Shrek the Musical. But I also love the Beatles and ’90s music.
What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? The journey of 1,000 miles begins with one step. Even if you cannot see the whole forest, you have to plant the seed! If I hadn’t started my YouTube channel back in 2013, we wouldn’t have half a million followers and two published books now, and wouldn’t have had so many cool experiences, such as partnering with huge brands like Tabasco and NutriBullet. I didn’t know what I was doing, and I didn’t know where it would take me. But I just started. There were so many times I wanted to give up. So many frustrations: three years to get to 10,000 subscribers, while doing 40-plus hours a week of YouTube work; making $0.13 my first month; making only a few dollars for months after. It took dedication and a lot of time and patience. Looking back, though, we couldn’t have gotten here, if I hadn’t just posted my very first video back then. We live in a world now where people “try” something for a few days, weeks, and if they don’t see significant progress quickly enough, they consider it a failure and move on. If it’s something you’re really passionate about — keep going! Don’t give up so quickly. You’ll never know where it could lead.
What is something you cannot live without? My Sophie girl! I don’t remember life before her.
What is your proudest accomplishment? Adam and I have written two books with DK Publishing/Penguin Random House that have sold over 50,000 copies. They even got placed in stores like Target and Costco! Walking into those stores and seeing our book was absolutely the coolest thing ever!
