First Selectman Dan Rosenthal was the guest of honor at Church Hill Village for nearly two hours last Friday afternoon.

The first selectman opened his visit by presiding over the ribbon cutting of the newest amenity at the assisted living facility: a putting green. While the afternoon's weather was not conducive for the event to be celebrated outdoors, as originally planned, Rosenthal, Church Hill Village Executive Director Laura Pilsifer, Village residents and staff members nevertheless appeared to enjoy themselves, gathering in the dining hall at 2 The Boulevard. There, two lengths of artificial grass had been laid down, each leading to a ball return machine.

The permanent green is just outside the dining room, so the group on July 10 was able to view where they will be putting when weather is more cooperative.

Betty Ann Sittig and Keren Widmann had been selected to hold the turquoise ribbon for Rosenthal, who spoke for just a few minutes before making a clean cut. Sittig then accepted the first selectman's invitation to test out the temporary putting green. Grabbing her putter, which she had been holding just minutes earlier, she aced a hole in one on her first try.

Meanwhile, staff members passed out flutes of champagne to those who wished to raise a glass to their new offering. Rosenthal was challenged by a few additional residents, before stepping back and serving as a pseudo-caddie, chasing errant golf balls for residents whose aim wasn't as strong as Sittig's had been just a few minutes earlier.

At the top of the 2 o'clock hour, Rosenthal and the group moved into a nearby room, where the town leader spent time calling Bingo.
