Upcoming Drivers Education Program Accepting Registration At NHS

All-Star Driver in cooperation with Newtown Continuing Education is will offer its Full Drivers Education Program to residents of Newtown. Class will be offered on campus at Newtown High on Mondays and Wednesdays immediately following school, from 2:30 until 4:30 pm.

The afternoon course will start September 30. An evening course will be offered from 6 until 8, and this course will begin October 12.

The eight-week courses includes 30 hours of classroom time and must be packaged with at least eight hours of private behind the wheel instruction.

This class presents students with the opportunity to receive a Connecticut State Driver’s License while not interfering with their daily school life.

The State of Connecticut requires new teen drivers to complete and log 40 hours of driving time before receiving their license. This time can be completed with the driving school, or with an adult that has had a driver’s license for five years with no violations. If eight hours are completed with the school, the remaining 32 must be completed with someone else. Students must be 16 years old to enter a class. Students do not need a learner’s permit to begin class, Newtown Continuing Education suggests they attend two or three classes before getting their permit. The learner’s permit is only good for the State of Connecticut, and training hours must be completed in Connecticut.

The State of Connecticut requires each student to take a two-hour parent class where both the student and parent are present. This class will be offered during the first class at Newtown High on September 30 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm and on October 12 from 6 until 8 pm. At least one parent or legal guardian must attend this class with the student, or the state will not issue a driver’s license. Other arrangements are possible if a parent or student can not attend this class.

For more information or to register for the class visit All-Star Driver’s website at www.all-stardriver.com, or call All-Star Driver at 800-732-8090 or Newtown Continuing Education at 426-1787.
