Easter Shopping? Some Local Stores Are Open Sunday

Many houses of worship will remain closed on Easter Sunday to promote the level of social distancing required to temper the spread of the novel coronavirus, and a call to several local grocery stores and markets reflected some that would also be closed during the high religious holiday.

A store supervisor responding to a call from The Newtown Bee on Tuesday, April 8, said the Big Y on Queen Street would not only be closed on Easter Sunday, but on Monday, April 13, as well, to “give store employees a break.” Crews will utilize the Monday closing to also perform a thorough cleaning and disinfecting, the supervisor said.

Big Y is open Saturday, April 11, until 8 pm, and will reopen with special hours for seniors Tuesday, April 14, from 6 am to 8 am, before allowing other members of the public in. The store will return to being open April 15 between 7 am to 8 pm, and will maintain that schedule daily until further notice.

Caraluzzi’s Market on Queen Street will be open Easter Sunday between 7 am and 3 pm, according to a customer service representative answering the phone.

Otherwise, according to an update provided April 10, Caraluzzi's will open for senior shopping daily from 7 - 8 am; and for all other customer needs daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

On Easter Sunday, Newtown’s Stop & Shop on South Main Street is open from 6 am to 7:30 am for seniors, and from 7:30 am to 5 pm for the general public.

Butcher’s Best Market on South Main Street is normally closed every Sunday and Monday, but remind patrons it will be open for their Easter needs on Saturday, April 11, from 8 am to 5 pm. Neighboring BD Provisions on South Main Street will also be closed on Easter, but will be open for shoppers Saturday, as well, from 9 am to 7 pm.
