Local restaurants are looking to weather the storm amid state restrictions put in place to help stop the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.

On Monday, March 16, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont ordered all restaurants and bars to stop dine-in services as of 8 pm that day.

As a result, many restaurants are focusing on takeout, delivery, and curbside service — where employees bring meals out to patrons in their cars — in hopes of not having to close their doors to customers completely.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states, “Coronaviruses are generally thought to be spread from person-to-person through respiratory droplets. Currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food.”

Newtown First Selectman Dan Rosenthal expressed in a coronavirus video update with The Newtown Bee, posted March 18, that the local business community needs residents’ help during these difficult times, saying, “Please, however we can, whether it be via takeout or via gift cards, let’s support our local businesses, because they need it.”
