Jennifer Ober
Jennifer Gorham Ober left this beautiful world on March 23, 2020. She was born on October 25, 1960, in Boston, Mass. She is survived by her parents, Barbara and Howard Gorham of Oxford, Conn., and her brothers, James Gorham and John Gorham. She was predeceased by her brother, Matthew Gorham.
Jennifer moved to Newtown, with her parents when she was four years old and attended Newtown Public Schools. She graduated from Newtown High School in 1978 and then attended Fairfield University where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. When her children were in elementary school, she attended Western Connecticut State University, where she earned a master’s degree in nursing. Jennifer worked as an APRN and felt privileged to enter into the lives of people and help them take care of their precious health.
Jennifer and her husband, Garry, lived in Newtown for 37 years where they raised their daughters, Bethany, Mary, and Claire. Bethany and Ethan Mannon live in Asheville, N.C., and are expecting a baby in May; Mary and Miles Carpenter live in San Clemente, Calif.; and Claire and Ben McCormick live in Durham, N.C., with their daughter, Elena. Jennifer was very proud of her daughters and their spouses, and she prayed they would continue to love and support each other.
Jennifer loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of Walnut Hill Community Church where she taught women’s Bible studies. Jennifer believed that the Word of God is living and true. She believed that nothing could separate her from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39). Even in illness and death her hope was in a Living Savior who will greet her in Heaven.
In place of flowers, please make contributions to the Newtown Community Center. Jennifer loved swimming and hoped that all the children in Newtown would be safer if they could confidently swim.
A celebration of Jennifer’s life will be held in the spring at Walnut Hill Community Church. Please wear bright clothing and prepare to celebrate a very happy life filled with joy and gratitude.
