The EDC Business Survey

To the Editor:

During the last six months, the Town of Newtown’s Economic Development Commission sought to reach out to the almost 2,000 individual businesses in Newtown to find out what our business climate is like and what we can do for them. You have probably seen the A-frame signs at various locations which encourage business owners to visit www.newtown.org and take our survey. We have had many responses and we thank all who have taken time to complete it.

The Economic Development Commission is truly indebted to two of its very active commissioners, Don Sharpe and Margaret Oliger, for their hard work in transforming the concept of a townwide inquiry into a formal online survey which takes an estimated seven minutes to complete. Even though Don and Margaret both have full-time jobs and family responsibilities, they were able to develop, implement and also publicize the survey to ensure it would be successful.

The commission was very happy to be able to contract with a local Newtown professional firm The Writedesign Company, LLC owned and operated by Scott and Susan Brier who demonstrated their creativity, ingenuity, and patience in ensuring the success of the survey. As always, we are appreciative of the skills, input and coordination efforts of Liz Stocker, our Director of Economic Development in this effort.

We expect to be able to present the survey results by the end of the year. We have already identified findings which have been incorporated into our ongoing efforts to attract and retain business in Newtown.
