The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will be holding four workshops this spring.

Workshops will be presented in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street. They will launch with “Watercolor Techniques,” led by Bivenne Harvey Staiger, on Saturday, March 21, from 9:30 am until 3:30 pm.

Students will learn to paint a bird in watercolor with a natural background that supports its key elements using techniques that can be applied to painting almost any motif.

The instructor has been creating dramatic watercolor paintings of motifs from nature which she loves, especially birds and flowers. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the Silver Medal from the American Watercolor Society’s 152nd Annual Exhibition (2019).

Ms Staiger is also a featured artist in the January/February 2020 issue of Watercolor Artist magazine. View examples of her work at bivennefineart.com.

Cost for the class is $85 ($65 for SCAN members), and registration is required. Send a check to SCAN, PO Box 41, Newtown CT 06470, with an indication on the memo line that payment is for Watercolor Techniques.

Those registering are also asked to include a note with their name, address, phone, and e-mail with their check. Registration is complete once a check has been sent.

Other workshops planned for the spring include:

Pastel with Karen Israel — Saturday, April 4, 9 am to 5 pm, $85 ($65 SCAN members);

Figure Drawing with Lisa Wilvonseder-Greto — Saturday, April 25, 10:30 am to 3 pm, $80 ($60 SCAN members), which includes model fees; and

Composition with Adele Moros — Saturday, May 9, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, $70 ($50 SCAN members).

Registration for these classes can also be done by mailing a check, and note, to the above address, with the class noted on the memo line. Visit SCANart.org for additional information.

“English Sparrows” is a watercolor by Bivenne Harvey Staiger, who will lead the first of four art workshops the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown is hosting this spring.
