Volvo Hits Tree

Motorist Oliver Brown, 20, of Danbury, was driving a 1986 Volvo 244 sedan northward on Obtuse Road, near Newbury Road, about 10:24 am on December 22, when he lost control of the auto, drove off the right road shoulder, and then struck a tree head-on, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Brown for traveling too fast for conditions.

Great Hill Incident

Police said that at about 12:23 am on December 21, they received a call from a person at a Great Hill Road residence, informing them that there was a man outside the house who was attempting to break into a garage there.

The man got entry into the garage and went inside a motor vehicle parked within the garage, while yelling, police said. On arriving at the property, police encountered the man banging on the house’s front door and yelling. During the course of the incident, the man had broken a window on the garage.

After investigating, police charged Christopher Amlicke, 23, of Newtown, with third-degree criminal mischief and second-degree criminal trespassing. Following arrest processing, police released Amlicke on a written promise to appear on January 3 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury to be arraigned on the charges.

Off South Main

Motorist Gladis Jara, 25, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2008 Hyundai Elantra auto southward on South Main Street, near Ethan Allen Road, about 6:13 am on December 21, when the auto traveled off the right road shoulder and became disabled atop a snowy embankment, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Jara an infraction for driving without a license and also verbally warned Jara for failure to maintain the travel lane.

Three Violations

Police said that while on patrol about 11:20 am on December 21, they spotted a motorist driving near Exit 11 of Interstate 84 in Sandy Hook, while in a vehicle that had no front marker plate.

Police stopped the driver, John Hatch, 63, of Trumbull, to investigate and then charged him with failure to display a marker plate, misuse of a marker plate, and driving an unregistered vehicle. Hatch was released for a January 3 court appearance.

SUV Into Ditch

At about 9:59 pm on December 21, police received a report about a one-vehicle accident that had occurred on Castle Hill Road, about 500 feet east of its intersection with Taunton Lake Road.

Police said motorist Christopher Shaker, 17, of Newtown, had been driving a 2004 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Castle Hill Road and while negotiating a left curve in the roadway, the vehicle went out of control, travelling off the left road shoulder. The Honda then went down an embankment and landed in a ditch.

There were no injuries. The Honda needed to be towed away. Police gave Shaker an infraction for failure to drive to the right on a curve.

Signal Post Road

At about 2:18 am on December 20, motorist Harold Starr, 89, of Newtown, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, attempted to make a three-point turn on Signal Post Road, but traveled off the roadway and landed in a ditch, where the vehicle got stuck, police said. Signal Post Road is a dead-end street that extends from Currituck Road.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Starr and passenger Joanne Conklin, 84, of Newtown, to Danbury Hospital for medical evaluations. Police verbally warned Starr for making an improper turn.

South Main Accident

About 3:58 pm on December 20, motorist Amanda Hagischi, 16, of Newtown, was driving a 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Elm Drive, and then braked for traffic conditions, after which northbound motorist Jered Robertson, 17, of Newtown, who was driving a 2002 Acura 3.2-TL sedan, struck the rear end of the Jeep, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Robertson for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Subaru Vs Subaru

At about 3:58 pm on December 20, motorist Theodore Faiella, 64, of Melbourne, Fla.,who was driving a 2012 Subaru Legacy sedan westward on Wasserman Way, stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear so that he could make a left turn to enter Nunnawauk Road, after which his vehicle was struck from behind by a westbound 2014 Subaru Forester station wagon driven by Allan Burgess, 22, of Redding, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Burgess for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Exit Ramp

Motorist Andrew Reitter, 54, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2014 Honda Civic auto, stopped at the stop sign at the end of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp at about 7:16 am on December 19, after which motorist Vincent Abate, 26, of Marlboro, N.Y., who was driving a 2015 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, stopped behind the Honda, state police said.

The Toyota then moved forward and struck the Honda. There were no injuries. State police issued Abate an infraction for unsafe movement from a stopped position.

Flying Ice

State police report that at about 2:07 pm on December 18, some accumulated ice dislodged from the roof of a 2010 Hyundai Sonata sedan being driven by motorist Shelley Valentine, 62, of Woodbury, on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11.

That dislodged ice then struck the windshield of a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek SUV being driven by motorist Meghan Oster, 34, of Brookfield. There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Valentine for failure to remove accumulated snow/ice from a motor vehicle.

Truck Hits Car

At about 6:41 pm on December 18, on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp, a 2007 Hino truck driven by Sanchez Avila, 36, of Danbury, struck the rear end of 2008 Honda Civic auto driven by Maria Arias-Santos, 33, of Danbury, state police said.

Ambulance staff members transported Arias-Santos and two Honda passengers to Danbury Hospital to be checked. Avila received an infraction or following too closely.

Hawleyville Crash

Police report an accident involving the evasion of responsibility that occurred about 7:10 pm on December 18 at the intersection of Hawleyville Road and Mt Pleasant Road.

An unknown motorist, who was driving a Hyundai Elantra auto westward on Mt Pleasant Road, made a right turn onto northbound Hawleyville Road and then crossed over into Hawleyville Road’s southbound lane, crashing into a Ford Explorer SUV containing two people, which was waiting in a line of traffic at a traffic signal, police said. There were no injuries to the people in the Ford.

After the impact, the Hyundai then continued traveling northward on Hawleyville Road without stopping. Police are investigating.

SUV Vs Sedan

During the commuter rush at about 6:10 pm on December 12, motorist Loretta Bossio, 72, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord sedan, stopped on eastbound Wasserman Way and was waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn to enter Oakview Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Jillian Clure, 16, of Newtown, who was driving a 2020 Jeep Wrangler SUV, was traveling westward on Wasserman Way, but did not have the vehicle’s headlamps illuminated, police said.

The Honda then attempted to make the left turn and the two vehicles collided, after which the Jeep drove off the roadway, struck a traffic sign, and then traveled through a row of hedges at the town athletic field at 117 Wasserman Way, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Bossio to Danbury Hospital for a medical evaluation. Clure received an infraction for driving without headlamps illuminated.
