Mazda Vs Tree

Motorist Maite Gomez, 39, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2913 Mazda CX-9 SUV southward near 120 Toddy Hill Road about 1:59 am on December 17, when the auto skidded on the slushy road, went off the right road shoulder, climbed an embankment, and then hit a tree, police said. There were no injuries.

Botsford Accident

Motorist Sharleen Cosme, 25, of West Haven, was driving a 2009 Toyota Camry sedan northward on South Main Street about 9:13 am on December 17 and then attempted to make a left turn to enter the southern driveway at Sand Hill Plaza, but slid into some guard railing, police report.

There were no injuries. Cosme was verbally warned for making a restricted turn.

Multiple Charges

Police said motorist Donald Butler, 38, of Monroe was driving a 1999 Subaru Forester station wagon southward near 101 Taunton Hill Road about 12:05 pm on December 17 amid snowy conditions, when the vehicle drove off the right road shoulder and struck two curbside residential mailboxes, the second of which was housed within a stone structure.

The vehicle was heavily damaged by the impacts, and Butler fled the area on foot, police said. Butler was later located and police charged him with evading responsibility with a motor vehicle, driving under suspension, and failure to drive in the proper lane. Butler is scheduled to appear in court on January 2 to answer those charges.

Newtown police said they turned over Butler to Monroe police, who held a warrant on him with the charge of third-degree larceny in connection with an October incident in Monroe.

On Shadblow Trail on the night of December 15, police spotted a Honda Civic auto that had a headlamp and a taillamp that were defective, so they stopped the auto to investigate.

Police found that the driver had a 5-year-old boy sitting in the back seat without a child safety seat.

After investigating, police charged motorist Jose Rodriguez, 45, of Danbury, with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, failure to have a child safety seat, misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, and automotive equipment violations.

Police held Rodriguez on $2,000 bail for a December 16 court arraignment.

Two Warrants

Police said that after learning that motorist Michael Sereday, 53, of Sandy Hook, had a suspended vehicle registration, they spotted him at the Mobil gas station at 62 Church Hill Road about 7:12 pm on December 15.

Police said there were two warrants against Sereday stemming from motor vehicle stops they had made on him earlier this year in town. Police charged Sereday with two counts of second-degree failure to appear in court. Sereday posted $1,000 bail for a January 3 court appearance.

Ford Rollover

Police said that at about 1:51 am on December 14, motorist Nikolas DiBiagio, 17, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck southward near 233 Hattertown Road, drove off the right road shoulder, and struck an embankment, after which the truck rolled onto its roof.

There were no injuries. Police issued DiBiagio an infraction for driving with an expired vehicle registration and verbal warnings for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive in the proper lane.

DUI Charge

Police received a call about 5:42 am on December 14 reporting that a man was sleeping in a vehicle that was partially parked on the road near the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Diamond Drive.

On investigating, police charged motorist Julio Moreno-Paulino, 29, of Danbury, with driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. He was released on $1,000 bail for a January 2 court appearance.

Toyota Into Rails

State police report that about 10:51 am on December 13, motorist Nancy Quest, 49, of Bedminster, N.J., who was driving a 2012 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10, lost control of the vehicle and struck some guard railing along the left road shoulder.

There were no injuries. Quest was verbally warned for failure to maintain the proper lane.

Honda Vs Volvo

Motorist Delfim Teixeira, 52, of Monroe, who was driving a 2004 Volvo truck southward on South Main Street about 5:24 am on December 12, stopped at a red traffic signal at South Main Street’s intersection with Mile Hill Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Brian Baniyounes, 31, of Newtown, who was driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey minivan, then struck the rear end of the Volvo. There were no injuries. Baniyounes received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Bus Accident

Police report that at about 3:01 pm on December 12, Charmaine Lapierre, 70, of Newtown, was driving a 2020 Blue Bird school bus, which was turning around in the intersection of Hanover Road and Bramble Trail, when while backing up, it struck some guardrailing.

There were five passengers on board, ages 10 through 15. There were no injuries. The bus is owned by Bank of America Leasing. Police verbally warned Lapierre for unsafe backing.

CX-5 Vs CX-5

About 5:44 pm on December 12, motorist Timothy Vercellone, 50, of Laconia, N.H., who was driving a 2015 Mazda CX-5 SUV on eastbound Interstate 84, about 800 feet east of Exit 9, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by a 2018 Mazda CX-5 SUV driven by Angelo Arena, 32, of Prospect, state police said.

There were no injuries. Arena was verbally warned for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

DUI Incident

Police report that they were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Glover Avenue, after which the motorists involved in it had become involved in a verbal dispute, at about 9:52 pm on December 11.

Before police arrived at the accident, a man involved in the crash, who was driving a white BMW auto, left the scene and headed southward on South Main Street.

Police report they spotted the BMW on South Main Street near Greenbriar Lane, but its driver refused to pull over. Later, near 263 South Main Street, more than two miles to the south, police got that driver to stop. The police pursuit occurred at regular driving speeds.

After investigating, police charged motorist Ronald Morgan, 41, of Stratford, with driving under the influence, engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility at a motor vehicle accident, failure to obey a traffic control signal, and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

After processing, Morgan was released on $10,000 bail for a December 27 court appearance.

Saturn Hits Honda

About 7:32 am on December 9, motorist Chris Oldham, 54, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord auto southward on Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions near West Street, after which the Honda was struck from behind by a 1998 Saturn SL-2 auto driven by Maria Sousa, 64, of Danbury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sousa for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Three Vehicles

A three-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road, about 100 feet west of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 on-ramp at about 6:34 pm on December 6.

The accident involved motorist Brian Riordan, 49, of Monroe, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Outback station wagon, motorist Giuliano DeLuca, 74, of Southbury, who was driving a 2012 Honda Fit SUV, and motorist Frank Mercaldi, 63, of Pompano Beach, Fla., police report.

There were no injuries. Riordan received an infraction for a right-of-way violation.

Snowy Road

Police report that at about 2:57 pm on December 1, on Boggs Hill Road, about 60 feet south of its intersection with Willow Brook Lane, motorist Alden Kurkcu, 17, of Newtown was driving a 1995 Chevrolet K-1500 pickup truck northward, when while negotiating a curve on the snow-covered pavement, he drove off the right road shoulder, with the truck coming to rest on its passenger side.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Kurkcu for traveling too fast for conditions.
