The school district has released the 2019-20 Winter Performance Schedule for concerts and events for the public schools.

The concerts are free, and members of the public are welcome to attend. The listings show the school, group performing, location, date, and time.

A release from the district about the events reads “Please join us in celebrating the arts in the Newtown Public Schools. Students throughout the district are developing artistic literacy — the knowledge, skills, and understanding to authentically participate and actively engage in the arts throughout their lives. The exhibits, productions, and concerts taking place in our schools provide insight into the process in which students develop discipline-specific skills and techniques associated with their art form. They represent the culmination of a great deal of discipline, many hours of practice, analyzing and problem-solving, refining, and collaborating with teachers and peers — all skills that are crucial in today’s workforce. A variety of cultures, styles, genres, and time periods are represented, with many elements having been created or arranged by our students.

“We appreciate the amount of time you dedicate to supporting all of the programs in our schools. The Visual and Performing Art Department staff and students would be honored to have you attend one of our events... Please join us and accept our gift of the arts.”

The Newtown Middle School eighth grade concert will be at Newtown High School, December 2, 7 pm; snow date is December 4.

NMS seventh grade concert will be at NHS, December 4, 7 pm.

Sandy Hook Elementary School fourth grade chorus concert will be at Sandy Hook School, December 5, 7 pm; snow date December 9.

Hawley Elementary School’s fourth grade chorus concert will be at Hawley, December 9, 7 pm; snow date December 11.

NHS orchestra and Jazz Improv Class Concert will be at NHS, December 10, 7 pm; snow date December 11.

NHS band concert will be at NHS, December 16, 7 pm; snow date December 18.

NHS chorus concert will be at NHS, December 17, 7 pm; snow date December 19.

NHS Art Portfolio Show will be at the Newtown Community Center, December 19 to January 2, with a reception January 2 at 4:30 pm.

Head O’ Meadow Elementary School fourth grade chorus concert will be at Head O’ Meadow January 8, 7 pm; snow date January 9.

The NHS Unified Theater program will stage a student production at NHS January 11 at 6 pm and January 12 at 2 pm; snow dates January 18 and 19.

Middle Gate Elementary School fourth grade concert will be at NHS January 16, 7 pm; snow date January 21.

Reed Intermediate School’s fifth and sixth grade band concert will be at Reed, January 22, with the fifth grade performing at 6:30 pm and the sixth grade performing at 8 pm; snow date January 29.

Reed’s fifth grade chorus and orchestra concert will be at Reed, January 23, 7 pm; snow date January 30.

Reed’s sixth grade chorus and orchestra concert will be at Reed, January 27, 7 pm; snow date January 28.
