The teams had to wait a day to play due to wind-related road closures canceled school the day after a Halloween night storm, but did not have to wait long for the first touchdown.
Beginning with an opening-minute score, Newtown High School’s football team had its way in a 38-0 victory over visiting Stratford, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on November 2.

After Jared Dunn’s one-yard TD run, Lombardo hooked up with Cuomo on a 38-yard scoring strike through the air and the Nighthawks had a commanding 21-0 lead after one quarter of play.
Newtown’s defense was stellar throughout and the special teams was strong with Will Swierbut partially blocking a first-half punt.
A 27-yard Devin O’Connell field goal and Lombardo to Riley Ward five-yard touchdown pass accounted for the second-quarter scoring as Newtown established a 31-0 lead at halftime.
Newtown’s other platoon QB, Jack Street, threw a TD pass to Eric Gray in the second half.
Connor Breslin ran the ball well for the Nighthawks as they moved the chains and kept possession for much of the evening.
The Nighthawks have their final regular-season home game of the year on Friday, November 8 when Bunnell of Stratford visits for a 7 pm kickoff.
