Nighthawk Swim Team Beats Masuk, Finishes With 9-1 Record

Newtown High School's girls' swimming and diving team capped the regular season with a 99-82 win over host Masuk of Monroe on October 29. The Nighthawks finish the regular season at 9-1.

The South-West Conference championships are just around the corner with the diving competition slated to take place at Pomperaug High in Southbury on Tuesday, November 5 at 5:30 pm and the swimming events at Masuk of Monroe on Saturday, November 9, beginning at 11 am.

Against Masuk, the 200 yard medley relay team of Caroline Mahoney, Cate Fischer, Olivia Renkert, and Payton Bradley was first in 1:57.78.

Shayna Millard was first in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:03.44. Newtown had the top three finishers in the 200 individual medley as Renkert was first in 2:23.38, followed by Norah Kolb in 2:23.71, and Isabel Cadoff in 2:39.87. In the 50 free, Mahoney was second in 25.69.

Hannah Weatherby won the diving competition with a score of 207.20.

Renkert was first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:06.11. Millard was first in the 100 free, clocking in at 56.37. In the 500 free, Mopsey Seaver finished first in 5:45.32.

Newtown's 200 free relay of Kolb, Renkert, Bradley, and Millard was runner-up in 1:47.55.

Mahoney placed second in the 100 backstroke race with a time of 1:04.30. Newtown exhibitioned the last two events. Fischer had the second-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke event in 1:16.31. The 400 free relay comprising Bradley, Seaver, Kolb, and Millard had the best time, finishing in 4:00.48.
