To the Editor:

I am a longtime resident of Newtown Legislative district 1, senior banker, and an active member of the community. I would like you to join me in supporting William DeRosa for Legislative Council. I believe one of the most fundamental principles of an elected official is to address local issues. At this level, we’re faced with the practical issues of keeping our community safe, our school performing, our roads up-to-date, and our community a desirable place to live and work. No better candidate can help the district moving forward than William, with his practical, non-partisan approach. If elected, he will work collaboratively with other elected officials to get things done.

William moved to Newtown nine years ago with his wife, Kersti, and now 5-year-old son, Jack. They were attracted by the charm, authenticity, and excellent school district.

William is not a politician; rather, he is a professional cellist; this is refreshing. William and I share a passion for music. He graduated from Juilliard and has performed with Isaac Stern, one of the great instrumentalists of the 20th Century, in Carnegie Hall and around the world. He has been actively involved in causes that benefit Newtown residents. For example, William worked with Patrick Sasser of No Tolls CT to develop a nonpartisan plan to avoid an additional tax burdens on Connecticut residents. William has been attending local meetings and talking to residents to make sure he understands firsthand the challenges facing our schools. William is a prudent leader who will add fiscal discipline to town government while preserving the character and quality of Newtown, making it business friendly.

Regardless your party affiliation, if you want a councilman who can reach across the aisle, bring people together and get things done, vote for William DeRosa.
