Awards Honoring Dr Arthur Kotch

Presented By Danbury Hospital

Danbury — The first award recipients of the Dr Arthur Kotch Endowment Fund for Education in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders Medicine at Danbury Hospital were recently honored during a reception at the hospital. The six honorees — Janice Stauffer of Redding, Anne Marie Vollhardt and Deborah Wolyniec of Ridgefield, Patricia Dilauro of New Milford, Karen Floyd of Watertown and Stuart Moses of Walden, N.Y. — will pursue postgraduate educational opportunities within the specified areas.

The Kotch Endowment honors Dr Arthur Kotch of Redding for his distinguished career as a dedicated physician and superb teacher during more than 30 years of service in the Danbury medical community. Dr Kotch established the hospital’s Pulmonary Rehab Center in 1983, one of the first of its kind, and its Sleep Disorder Center in 1989 and served as the center’s director for more than a decade. The center was accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine in 1995 — one of two in the state at the time.

Dr Kotch took great pleasure in presenting the awards, telling a personal story about each recipient.

The Dr Arthur Kotch Endowment Fund was initiated upon Dr Kotch’s retirement from full-time work in 2004 by Dr Philip and Margareta Kotch of Newtown and currently has more than 180 donors. Dr Philip Kotch is a retired general surgeon and Arthur’s brother.

Anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Dr Arthur Kotch Endowment for Education in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Disorders Medicine, may do so by mail at Danbury Hospital Development Fund, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810 or online at danburyhospital.org.

Formerly an associate clinical professor at Yale New Haven Medical Center and frequent deliverer of papers to professional groups in the United States and overseas, Dr Kotch is now affiliated part-time with the Center for Sleep Medicine at Bridgeport Hospital..
