Pedestrian Hit By Two Vehicles On I-84
State police report an incident in which a man, who was involved in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 84, then started running into traffic on the highway and was successively struck by two vehicles.
State police said motorist Prentiss Noyes, 29, of Sharon, who was driving a 2006 Toyota 4-Runner sport-utility vehicle eastward on I-84, west of Exit 9, jumped out of the vehicle while it was still in gear and the Toyota kept moving until it struck guardrailing on the highway median at about 9:15 pm June 19.
Noyes was not injured in that accident for which enforcement action is pending, state police said.
Noyes then began running onto the highway toward eastbound traffic, state police said.
An eastbound 2002 Chevrolet Venture van driven by Lori Terhaar, 48, of 37 Horseshoe Ridge Road then collided with Noyes, state police said. Noyes fell down, and then got up on his feet and started running toward eastbound traffic again, state police said.
An eastbound 2007 Saturn Aura driven by David Lipman, 60, of Southbury then collided with Noyes, after which Noyes came to rest on the median, state police said.
Noyes received arm and leg injuries, state police said. Both vehicles received windshield and exterior mirror damage in the impacts.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Noyes to Danbury Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Noyes was treated at the emergency room and then released.
The incident caused travel delays on I-84.
Hawleyville and Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident. State police are investigating the incident.
