A four-vehicle collision occurred on Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6) at its intersection with Violette Road about 4 pm June 22, injuring two drivers, and causing traffic delays at the start of the Friday evening rush.
Police said motorist Earl Jones, 38, of Bridgeport was driving a 1999 Dodge Ram pickup truck westbound on Mt Pleasant Road, when he drifted into the eastbound lane.
The Dodge then collided head-on with eastbound motorist Martha Davies, 52, of 139 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1991 Mazda Navajo sport-utility vehicle, police said.
The Mazda then spun around and struck motorist Frederick Stoll, 61, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1998 Buick Century sedan eastward behind the Mazda, police said.
The Dodge kept traveling in the eastbound lane and struck motorist Kim Clomiro, 44, of 38 Mt Nebo Road, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle, which was pulling out of a driveway, police said. The Jeep carried an 8-year-old passenger.
The Dodge then came to rest in a commercial parking lot. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident.
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Jones and Davies to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.Â
Davies was treated and released from the hospital. Jones was admitted as a patient and then discharged on June 25, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Police said that Jones told them that he had blacked out before the first impact occurred. Jones received an infraction for failure to drive to the right and for driving without a license.
While Mt Pleasant Road was blocked with accident debris and emergency vehicles, the heavy rush hour traffic was rerouted around the crash scene via Violette Road.
Police Officer Colin Richter investigated the crash.
