2,200 Cups Of Coffee
2,200 Cups Of Coffee
To the Editor:
This past Memorial Day weekend, BSA Troop 370 of Newtown, hosted its annual 24-hour coffee stop at Exit 10. This event is open continually from late Friday afternoon until early Monday evening and is run entirely by the scouts and their families. The scouts set up the site, pour over 2,200 cups of coffee and pass out dozens of donuts and bagels to road weary travelers, maintain the site, and finally break down and pack up for next year. Itâs an ambitious project which provides a service to the traveler on this holiday weekend and it also provides many rewards for the scouts.
They enjoy the event (even those who work the late night and early morning shifts). They talk to many different people who appreciate their efforts and they earn the sense of pride for a job well done. This is one of the troopâs two major community service projects. In December the troop assists on Depot Day by loading and unloading hundreds of boxes of food and gifts to be delivered to needy families for the holiday season. The coffee stop is dependent upon the support of the Town of Newtown, and the generosity of the many businesses and individuals in our community. We are very grateful for their ongoing support of our scouts.
We would like to thank the following:

Edwards, Newtown Building Department the fire marshal, the Health Department, Cedar Hill Electric, Connecticut State Police exit 14 Southbury, Newtown Park & Rec, Newtown Hardware, Newtown Town Hall, Newtown Town Garage, The Blue Colony Diner, My Place, Newtown Subway, Carminuccioâs, The Botsford Drive In, The Villa Restaurant, Kingâs Restaurant, Mary Ellen Hill of Marriott Food Service, Greg Cerosky of MSC Industrial Supply, Newtown Shell Service, Associated Refuse, Newtown Pizza Palace, Citgo Friendly Service Station, Marcus Dairy, Berkshire Veterinary Clinic, Bagelman of Newtown, Big Y of Newtown, Dunkinâ Donuts of Monroe, Dunkinâ Donuts of Newtown, Dunkinâ Donuts of Southbury, Doughnut Hut of Newtown, Doughnut Inn of Monroe, Newtown Police Department, Nunnawauk Meadows, Shaws of Southbury, Stop & Shop Newtown, the Sandy Hook Diner, One Hundred Church Hill Street Restaurant, and our sponsor, the Newtown United Methodist Church.
