Gifts From The Historical Society
Gifts From The Historical Society
To the Editor:
The Newtown Historical Society is continuing to give gifts to Newtown again this coming fall season. It always amazes me and frustrates me that somehow folks in town miss knowing about or attending the quality programs that the historical society so generously provides.
Great speakers passionate on their subject present programs each month. Anyone in attendance is always delighted they came out that evening. Presentations are free; they even serve refreshments after!
The first two gifts to be bestowed this fall, that shouldnât be missed are: A slide show and lecture on the building of the Stevenson Dam on Monday, September 8, at 7:30 pm, at Booth Library. Great background on the history of this area that is slated for major renovation in the near future.
In October, see a wonderful magic show, âThe Amazing Mr Potter.â This 19th Century master of slight of hand is in period costume and stays in character. The show will be in the Meeting House, Tuesday, October 14, at 7:30 pm.
More programs follow each month, there are articles in The Bee each time and notices in the societyâs newsletter.
I hope Newtowners will come and unwrap their gifts from the historical society, as they present the past and preserve the local history.
Sincerely,
Patty Graves
