DARWIN, Compelling & Resonant Objects, Philadelphia â An exceptional early Nineteenth Century baleen, mahogany, whalebone and ivory presentation box crowned with a narwhal carved fully in the round. The back in incised with two 15-star American flags, an octagonal lighthouse and flensing tools. It dates circa 1800 and is of New England origin.

This painting was exhibited at the National Academy of design in the year of Murphyâs death and is probably the last important exhibited painting of his artistic career.
