Buick Championship

The Greater Hartford Jaycees announced that veteran PGA Tour members and New England natives Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade are planning to compete in Hartford at the Buick Championship.

Faxon and Andrade received the Bing Crosby Tournament Sponsor Award on June 14 from the Metropolitan Golf Writers for their work in hosting the CVS Charity Classic event annually in their home state of Rhode Island. To date they have donated more than $4 million to youngsters in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

Other players previously committed include Nick Price (ranked No. 22 in the world), Stewart Cink (24), Stephen Leaney (28), Peter Lonard (47), Zach Johnson (43), Jerry Kelly (29), Heath Slocum and Connecticut natives Tim Petrovic and JJ Henry.

“Billy and Brad run their own golf tournament and they understand how difficult it is to continue to support the sponsors and the golf fans in each community,” said tournament director Dan Baker. “They are so engaging with their pro-am groups, with our sponsors and with our fans because they know that the lifeblood of the PGA Tour is the fans, the volunteers and the sponsors. They get it, so every day out there they do the best they can to provide an entertaining experience for everyone.”

Faxon has earned seven victories on the tour since joining in 1984, the first in 1991 at the Buick Open. Andrade, a native of Bristol, Rhode Island, has won four tournaments on the tour, including two in back to back weeks at the 1991 Kemper Open and Buick Classic.
