Ryan C. Baronowski formerly of Newtown, and daughter of Toni Baronowski of Southbury and Stephen Baronowski of Woodbury, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in wildlife conservation biology during a graduated commencement ceremony at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, R.I., on Sunday, May 22. During the last two years, Ryan also worked as a Northeast Coastal and Barrier Biological Science Technician for the National Parks Service at URI’s campus.

Newtown residents Erin M. Baier, Kyla M. Miles and Evan R. Philippi, and Sandy Hook resident Lauren Imperioli received degrees during Quinnipiac University’s 80th Undergraduate Commencement Exercises on May 22 in Hamden.

Two local residents were among the graduates during the 62nd Commencement Exercises on May 22 at King’s College, Wilkes-Barre, Penn. Sandy Hook resident Erin C. McDonald and Newtown resident Brandon Leon-Gambetta were two of 533 graduates that day.

Sean P. Ryan, son of Mary Ann and Ronald Ryan of Newtown, received a bachelor of arts degree in English literature and history from Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., on Sunday, May 22.

Mariale Renna received a bachelor of science degree cum laude and Brian Stickles received a bachelor of science and arts degree magna cum laude from Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., during the college’s commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 21.

Elisa L. Van Buskirk received a bachelor of science and art education in art education and Patrick C. Dunseith received a bachelor of science in ecological agriculture from the University of Vermont, Burlington, Vt., during the university’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22.

Eastern Connecticut State University held its 121st Commencement at the XL Center in Hartford on May 22. In all, 1,077 undergraduates and 102 graduate students earned degrees, and four local students were among them. Bethany Weber received a bachelor of arts degree in English, Gary Andrews received a bachelor of science degree in business administration, Michael Chapin of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science degree in business administration, and Brian Duffy of Sandy Hook received a bachelor of science degree in biology.

The following local residents were among over 900 students from Providence College, Providence, R.I., who received undergraduate degrees during the College’s 93rd Commencement Exercises held on Sunday, May 15: Courtney Fuller, who received a bachelor’s degree in women’s studies, and Megan Ross of Sandy Hook, who received a bachelor’s degree in health policy and management.

Seth Hull graduated from Trinity College in Hartford on Sunday, May 22, having studied history and economics.

Lauren N. Kostes, daughter of Stephen and Nicoletta Kostes and a 2007 Newtown High School graduate, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree in international relations on May 22 from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Penn.

Kathleen Sharnick, a member of the Connecticut College’s Class of 2011, was inducted into the Connecticut College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa May 21. Kathleen, a 2007 graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury, is the daughter of Steve and Iris Sharnick of Newtown. Phi Beta Kappa is the national honor society of undergraduate higher education. Admission to the society is based on exemplary academic scholarship over four years of college; members are in the top ten percent of their graduating classes.

Keene State College, Keene, N.H., recently released its Dean’s List for the Spring Semester 2011. Among the 1,450 students named to the Dean’s List were Newtown residents Eric Michael MacKnight and Bethany-Laura Morin, and Sandy Hook resident Hilary Jill Moskowitz.
