The Fourth Annual Senior Citizen Dinner Dance had its attendees boogying the night away in the Newtown High School cafetorium on Friday, May 31.

While the event was for those 55 and older, grandchildren ages 13 and up were invited to escort their grandparents to the dance.

No jukebox was required for the evening, as Newtown resident DJ Kevin Burland was the night’s musical sensation.

Mr Burland told the audience early on that he would be playing “songs of the ‘50s, ‘60s, and ‘70s for your dancing pleasure.”

Guests did group line dancing, slow dances, and everything in between.

Throughout the night, there were sing-a-longs to popular Motown songs like “My Girl” by The Temptations, and Mr Burland led games of trivia relevant to the time period of music playing.

Mr Burland also gave a special shout-out to RoseAnn Reggiano, assistant director of Newtown Parks & Recreation, for her assistance making the night possible, as well as to the Ben’s Lighthouse student volunteers, Newtown Parks & Recreation volunteers, and the Newtown High School culinary class, the latter of which supplied dinner for the evening.

The Senior Citizen Dinner Dance was hosted by Newtown Parks & Recreation and the Newtown Senior Center.
