Grants Expand HCC Programs
BRIDGEPORT â The Housatonic Community College Foundation was recently awarded two grants from the Frederick H. Leonhardt Fund at the New York Community Trust, funding both its tutoring program and increasing financial assistance to students during the upcoming 2003â2004 school year.
With its newly acquired $15,000 grant, the tutoring program, held at Housatonicâs Academic Support Center, will now be able to expand its hours of operations and staff capabilities. Currently, the center provides tutoring for 90 percent of the courses offered at the college on a limited basis.
The collegeâs $20,000 grant will be able to create a new revolving fund to help students get started in the often-complex world of financing a college education. The basic concept is to help students in need of financial assistance bridge the gap between the time tuition is due and the actual receipt of allocated financial aid or student loan funds.
The Fairfield County Community Foundation, based in Wilton, facilitated both grants.
