Democracy In Action

To the Editor:

Newtown residents, thank you for taking this week’s vote so seriously — for taking the time to become educated on the issues, and then showing up in record numbers to cast your vote. We witnessed democracy in action on a level that touches each one of us personally.

In addition, thank you to the hard-working PTA Advocacy Group who worked diligently to educate the public about the school budget and the high school expansion project. I am so grateful for your efforts, and the efforts of the many, many parents, elected officials, business owners, property owners, and Newtown citizens who worked so hard to educate the public, all in an effort to ensure that each question on the ballot passed the first time.

Now Newtown voters have spoken in a definitive way, sending a clear message to move forward. I am grateful for your support, and I am thrilled for our incoming high school students. This election made a real difference in each of their lives.

Thank you,

Lillian D. Bittman

Newtown Board of Education Member
