Garden Club To Host Colonial Herbalism Speaker

SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Garden Club will hold its next meeting on Friday, March 3, in Room 205 of Southbury Town Hall. The business meeting will begin at 12:30 pm.

At 1:30, guest speaker Susan Modzelewski, of Gardens of Graywall in Southbury, will present a program about Colonial herbalism. Ms Modzelewski’s herbal inclinations are a natural offshoot of her kinship with soil and stone. The gardens and walkways that surround her home represent years of dreaming and personal toil, and the depth of her knowledge of herbal gardening is enhanced by her familiy’s longstanding passion for reenacting Colonial history.

Ms Modzelewski has taught Colonial herbalism at historic sites from Nova Scotia to Virginia, and has conducted countless lectures with adults and school children as well as appearing on The History Channel.

The “Colonial Herbalism” program is open to the public. Admission is $3 per person. Following her presentation, Ms Modzelewski will host a question-and-answer session with the audience. Refreshments with an herbal theme will be served.
