NHS Animal Concerns Club Donates To Canine Advocates

Newtown High School Animal Concerns Club members met on Thursday, May 19, to deliver $200 to Virginia Jess of the local nonprofit Canine Advocates of Newtown. Club members raised the money through a recent bird seed sale they called “Seeds of Support.”

When asking people to buy bird seed and support Canine Advocates through the purchase, Animal Concerns Club Parent Advisor Lorrie Silber said all the work the Canine Advocates does in the community helped the club raise money. People already knew about the Canine Advocates and the work the group accomplishes.

“The Seeds of Support we put together were a big hit,” said Ms Silber, before asking Ms Jess to contact the high school club if Canine Advocates ever needs anything in the future.

The $200 donation is the largest donation the Animal Concerns Club has made to a local animal organization to date, according to Ms Silber and club President Alissa Silber.

The group started the Seeds of Support campaign because it would help local birds through a tough winter and raise money for Canine Advocates at the same time. Ms Jess had attended a meeting of the high school group in February, and explained the work Canine Advocates does for the community. According to Ms Silber and Alissa Silber, the club responded positively and supported the local nonprofit’s efforts to help walk, rehabilitate, advertise animals up for adoption, and more.
