ANDREW KOOISTRA PAINTINGS ON VIEW
avv/gs set 6-19 #703745
ELLENVILLE, N.Y. â The work of Andrew Kooistra is being exhibited at the Ellenville Public Library and Museumâs Gallery Link in the Joseph Y. Resnick Memorial Building, 40 Center Street, through August 1.
Kooistra follows in the path of Claude Monet, Frederick Carl Frieseke and Milton Resnick with explosive bright colors and rapid brush strokes that recall the Abstract Expressionistsâ school. Kooistra was a close friend of Resnick during the last part of his life, when he had studios in Napanoch and Cragsmoor. Resnick has played a strong influence on the work of Kooistra and his outlook in the creation of paintings shown in this exhibit.
Kooistraâs pictures take on a flat affect and the female figures are always shown in a frontal position set in flower gardens. Forms and shapes of colors are overlapped, giving a spatial quality to his work. The paint is applied in a thick impasto with colors worked over each other expressing a shimmering view. Through these lyrical methods, Kooistra has developed a signature style.
