Construction Zone Collision

State police report a three-vehicle accident in an construction zone on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 10:26 pm on October 4.

In that incident, motorist Amy Tinney, 41, of Derby, who was driving a 2018 Infiniti QX-60 SUV, stopped for traffic conditions, after which motorist Nicholas Jacob, 41, of Stratford, who was driving a 2001 BMW 745L-I sedan, stopped behind the Infiniti.

Motorist Erin Shaughnessy, 24, of Winchester, who was driving a 2011 Ford Escape SUV, then struck the rear end of the BMW, pushing the BMW into the rear end of the Infiniti. The motorists declined medical attention, state police said. Shaughnessy received an infraction for following too closely.

Marijuana Possession

State police report they saw a male motorist driving in and out of traffic while traveling more than 80 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 84 at about 6:21 am on October 7, so they stopped him to investigate.

State police charged Derek Sousa, 29, of Danbury, with possession of more than one-half ounce of marijuana. After arrest processing, Sousa was released on $2,000 bail for an October 25 court appearance.

Main Street Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Main Street, near its intersection with Sugar Street, about 1:19 pm on October 11.

In that incident, southbound motorist Sydney Hansen, 24, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2012 Toyota Prius, struck the rear end of a southbound 2012 Mercedes-Benz GL-450 SUV driven by Jennifer Faircloth, 46, of Sandy Hook. There were no injuries.

Hansen received a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Pontiac Vs Buick

At about 5:57 pm on October 11, motorist Beverly Kamaitis, 70, of Shelton, who was driving a 2019 Buick Encore SUV southward on Toddy Hill Road, approaching its intersection with Button Shop Road, slowed for traffic conditions, after which southbound motorist Christopher Menjivar, 17, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2007 Pontiac G-6 auto, struck the rear end of the Buick, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Menjivar for following too closely.

Failure To Appear

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Christopher Vasquez-Reynoso, 26, of Danbury, went to the police station about 12:30 pm on October 11 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said that on September 17 Vasquez-Reynoso had failed to appear in court on a pending charge of driving with a suspended license. Consequently, a judge ordered that a warrant be issued for his arrest. Newtown police lodged the original charge on June 18, to which Vasquez-Reynoso has pleaded not guilty.

After arrest processing on October 11, police released Vasquez-Reynoso on $500 bail for an October 29 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

Warrant Arrest

Police report that they stopped a vehicle traveling on Elm Drive about 9:09 pm on October 11, after learning that the driver had an arrest warrant pending against him.

After investigating, police charged motorist Thomas Coppinger, 19, of Sandy Hook, with failure to respond to an infraction. The warrant stemmed from an incident which occurred on June 4 in Monroe in which Coppinger received an infraction ticket from police there on charges of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor and simple trespassing. Coppinger has pleaded not guilty to both charges.

After arrest processing on October 11, police released Coppinger on $200 bail for an October 23 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Bridgeport.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 7:51 pm on October 12, they saw motorist Lisa Weitzmann, 53, of Brewster, N.Y., attempt to get onto Interstate 84 at Exit 10 by mistakenly entering an off-ramp for the highway, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police charged Weitzmann with driving under the influence and with failure to comply with state traffic signs.

Weitzmann was released for an October 29 court appearance.

Failure To Respond

At about 10:40 pm on October 13, police stopped motorist Raneisha Wright, 27, of Bridgeport, to investigate near 38 Toddy Hill Road.

Newtown police charged Wright with failure to respond to an infraction. Wright had received an infraction ticket from Bridgeport police, but had not paid a fine or contested the ticket, so a judge ordered that she be arrested on a warrant.

After processing, police released Wright on $100 bail for an upcoming court appearance.

Shoplifting

After learning that police held warrants for his arrest, Lawrence Livoisi, 30, of Morris, went to the police station about 9:30 am on October 14 and was charged with three counts of sixth-degree larceny.

Police said the charges stem from three shoplifting incidents that had occurred earlier this year at the Big Y supermarket in Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.

After arrest processing, Livoisi was released on a written promise to appear for arraignment in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

SUV Rollover

Police report a multiple-impact one-vehicle rollover accident near 51 The Old Road, off Currituck Road, about 5:41 pm on October 15.

Police report that motorist Jake Dandrea, 16, of Newtown, was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on The Old Road, when while negotiating a left curve in the road, the vehicle hit a curb and a stormwater catch basin, after which it struck a tree and then hit a stone wall, before rolling over and landing on its roof.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps checked Dandrea and passenger Steven Berard, 16, of Newtown, for apparently minor injuries, but did not transport them.

Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters also responded to the accident.

Police issued Dandrea an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive to the right and violating passenger restrictions on 16-17-year-old drivers that are in effect during their first six months of driving.
