To the Editor:

I would like to endorse my longtime friend and neighbor Cathy Reiss for District 1 Legislative Council. Cathy is a good and concerned citizen of Newtown. She has volunteered for many years in different capacities in town. While her children went through the Newtown school district, you could find her helping in the library and classrooms in addition to being a constant volunteer as a band parent and at other activities in which her children participated. Cathy is also an active congregant at Christ the King Lutheran Church and has held the elected position of treasurer for the last six years.

Another way in which Cathy found to give back is by becoming a trained comfort dog handler. She not only spends time taking Maggie, her church’s comfort dog, to different locations in Newtown and the community at large, but also coordinates Maggie’s schedule with other handlers. In short, her volunteer positions reveal that Cathy is organized, good with finances, and a person who believes in contributing to the community.

But Cathy is much more than a good volunteer. I believe she would make a valuable addition to the Legislative Council because she does her due diligence in researching all sides of an issue before forming an opinion. She makes well-informed decisions based on logic and not emotion. In addition, Cathy treats everyone with respect, regardless of differing opinions.

If you want to elect a person who will be prepared, thoughtful, and insightful, please join me in voting for Cathy Reiss for District 1 Legislative Council.
