To the Editor:

It is with great honor that I accept the nomination of the Newtown Democratic Party to run for my fifth term on the Legislative Council for District 2. I am a lifelong resident of Main Street and a graduate of Newtown High School. Throughout my life, I have served Newtown in many ways: as a Hook and Ladder Fireman for 17 years, stood as a past member and chairman of the Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners, and I am currently serving as Newtown’s representative on the Board of Directors of Housatonic Regional Transit (HART). Additionally, I have been actively involved in community service conducted through my longtime membership in the Newtown Rotary Club. For the past two years, I have been the chairman of the Education Committee of the Legislative Council, and I am proud to have had two education budgets pass the referendum on the first try.

Aside from my public service, many of you know me on a more personal level because I have served your family — and in many cases multiple generations of families — in my position as Funeral Director of the Honan Funeral Home. I pledge to serve on the Legislative Council in the same dignified, courteous manner that I conduct my business. I will be attentive and responsive to all the people of Newtown — whether you have children in our schools or are a retired senior citizen, whether you have lived in town for years or you’re just finding a new place to call home. I understand that serving on the Legislative Council takes much more than attending the twice monthly meetings — it involves working with all members of the Council, no matter what political party, to build consensus on the many issues Newtown faces today. I again look forward to the opportunity to serve Newtown.

Sincerely,

Daniel T. Honan
