Making A Difference
Making A Difference
To the Editor:
As the campaign trail heats up, and I navigate through the roadblocks and challenges of an election, I find myself working hard to remain focused on why I stepped up to the Board of Ed challenge in the first place; I stepped up for our children and our community as a whole. I wanted to bring my skills and expertise to the table to help Newtown move forward together as one community. I truly wanted to build bridges between our elected bodies, and the citizens of Newtown. I knew my business and community leadership background could be of use. My inspiration was the families I have worked with through the school system.
As the election draws near, Iâm sure it is hard for all the candidates to keep their focus on their values and their reasons for running. For me, keeping that focus is essential to keeping me centered. This week, as I passed through all the events of my regular life, I drew energy from the children, parents, and Newtown friends I touched. I was heartened by their outpouring of support for me as a candidate, but even more, I felt blessed to have had a positive impact on so many children through my two student newspaper programs.
This is why I sought the BOE appointment in June and why Iâm running today. More than my business experience ever could, the children and families of Newtown have shown me that one person can truly make a difference.Â
Sincerely,
Lillian D. Bittman
