DUI Charge

Police said they responded at about 11:26 pm January 8 to a report of a motor vehicle accident without injuries on Pond Brook Road.

Police said that after investigating the accident, they charged motorist Sandra Griebel, 43, of 26 Pond Brook Road with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After processing the case, police released Griebel on a $100 bail for a January 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Moving Violations

At about 9:18 pm January 9, motorist Luciano Furtado, 25, of West Haven was stopped by police for driving 60 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone on Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, police report.

Police charged Furtado with speeding and also with driving with a suspended license.

After he posted $300 bail, police released Furtado for a January 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Pocono Road

Sometime between 6 and 6:45 am on January 2, someone burglarized a home on Pocono Road and stole a large amount of money from the residence, police said. Pocono Road links Mt Pleasant Road to Old Hawleyville Road.

 Besides third-degree criminal mischief, which involves property damage, the crime entailed third- degree burglary, and first-degree larceny. First-degree larceny involves the theft of more than $10,000. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them.

Ford Hits Tree,           Stone Wall

Motorist  Allan Morgan, 52, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus northward near 78 South Main Street about 11 pm January 1, when Morgan became distracted and lost control of the auto, driving off the left side of the road, striking a tree and a stone wall, police said.

Morgan was not injured. Police issued him an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

Orchard Hill Crash

While driving westward on a wet, icy Orchard Hill Road in a 1997 Dodge pickup truck about 8:30 am January 8, motorist Anthony Petrellese, 39, of 13 Arlyn Ridge Road lost control of the truck, and slid into a stone wall near 50 Orchard Hill Road, police report.

Petrellese was not injured. Police verbally warned Petrellese for traveling too fast for conditions.

Intersection Collision

  Motorist John Burns, 16, of 1 Monitor Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Buick Regal eastward on Orchard Hill Road about 5 pm January 7, attempted to make a left turn onto northbound South Main Street, police said.

Burns pulled out from a stop sign in front of southbound motorist Rosemarie Jensen, 53, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles, police said.

There were no injuries, according to police. Burns received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Chevrolet Vs Porsche

Motorist Gilda Geanuracos, 72, of 96 Huntingtown Road, who was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier about 12:50 pm December 31, attempted to exit a driveway at that address to turn left onto northbound Huntingtown Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Gerard Robilotti, 64, of 28 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2000 Porsche Boxster southward on Huntingtown Road.

On seeing the Chevrolet exiting the driveway, Robilotti attempted to avoid an accident, but the autos collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Geanuracos a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

South Main Accident

Motorist Wayne Cabral, 43, of Kissimmee, Fla., was driving a 1990 Volvo 740 station wagon northward on South Main Street about 6:20 pm January 3, when motorist Miriam DeLucia, 67, of 4 Hyvue Drive, who was driving a 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue, made a left turn from Country Club Road to travel northward on South Main Street, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles, according to police.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported DeLucia to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Neither Cabral nor any of four passengers in the Volvo were injured.

Police issued DeLucia a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Construction Theft

Police report that sometime between 3:30 pm January 5, and 6:45 am January 7, someone stole an air compressor and various tools from a construction trailer parked at 6 Arlyn Ridge Road. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them at 270-8888.

Threatening

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a male under age 16  turned himself in at the police station on the morning of January 7, and was charged with second-degree threatening, police said.

Police said the arrest stems from a November 4 incident at Newtown High School, in which the accused boy allegedly made threatening remarks against another person.

Police released the unidentified boy into the custody of his parents for a January 24 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court.

Hawleyville Accident

Motorist Kayla Mesko, 16, of 12 Surrey Trail, who was driving a 1993 Toyota Tercel about 4:20 pm January 6, drove to the end of westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp and then stopped at a stop sign there, police said.

Mesko then attempted to turn left onto southbound Hawleyville Road, but collided with a 1993 Ford Taurus station wagon which was being driven northward on Hawleyville Road by motorist Robert Caprio, 43, of New Milford, police said.

Criminal Trespass

Police report they charged Nzogu K. Kulya, 34, of Southbury with first degree criminal trespass on January 11. After processing the arrest, police released Kulya on a promise to appear January 27 in Danbury Superior Court.

Ford Vs Deer

Motorist Donald Bauch, 47, of 18 Paugussett Road was driving a 2000 Ford Windstar northward on Queen Street about 7 pm January 10, when a deer ran into the road and the vehicle collided with it, police said. The deer ran off.

 Bauch was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Audi Into Snowbank

Motorist Raul Davila, 35, of 2 Hopewell Road was driving a 2002 Audi sedan eastward on Hopewell Road on January 11, when the auto struck a snowbank, police said. Davila was not injured. Police verbally warned Davila for making a restricted turn.

South Main Street

Motorist Karen Stern, 49, of 8 Saw Mill Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz C-230 coupe, was stopped for traffic on southbound South Main Street, near Country Club Road, about 8 am January 10, police said. A 1996 Chevrolet Prizm driven by Robert Sabin, 42, of 9 Knollwood Drive, was stopped behind the Mercedes, police said.

When traffic started to move, the Chevrolet drove forward and struck the Mercedes from behind, police said. There were no injuries. Police said Sabin failed to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Accident

Police report a three-vehicle accident on Church Hill Road about 4:20 pm January 10.

Eastbound motorist Kelly Kupstis, 23, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1994 Subaru Legacy, was stopped on the road at the direction of a traffic agent, police said.

An eastbound 2000 Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Beth McCleary, 33, of 23 The Boulevard, then stopped behind the Subaru, police said.

Eastbound motorist Wendy Olson, 38, of 9 Winter Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 Audi A-6 station wagon, attempted to stop, but drove into the rear end of the Chrysler, pushing the Chrysler into the rear end of the Subaru, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Olson a written warning for following too closely.

Blakeslee Drive

While negotiating a curve in the road on eastbound Blakeslee Drive at about 4:40 pm January 11, motorist Nicole Cinicolo, 18, of 111 Hanover Road, who was driving a 1997 BMW 318-I sedan, crossed the road’s centerline and collided with a westbound 2002 Buick Rendezvous driven by Teresa Elston, 38, of 4 Blakeslee Drive, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Cinicolo a written warning for failure to drive to the right.
