Childrenâs Programs
 *Halloween Fun for Kids!
Parents â come with your toddlers through about age 7, from 2 to 3 pm on Sunday, October 28. Let the kids try out their costumes early and join the Young Adult Council members for Halloween stories plus simple crafts and games.
 Kids can make their own Trick & Treat bags! Donât miss the skits at 3 pm by the Mask & Wig Players. Preregistration is not necessary â just drop in and have fun!
 *Author Program and Quilt Show will be November 18. The Author Friendship quilts created by volunteers under the guidance of the Sew Together Gals and quilted by the Scrap Bag Quilters are now complete. We have four beautiful unique quilts featuring the signatures of 20 distinguished childrenâs authors and illustrators. Four of the author/illustrators will be on hand November 18 for a book signing in the meeting room from 1 to 3 pm. Jennifer Thermes, Nancy Tafuri, Leonard Everett Fisher, and Paul Meisel will be our featured guests. There is a list of available titles in the childrenâs department. Refreshments will be served, no sign up is required. Mark your calendars and donât miss this unique opportunity to meet four talented authors in one place!
Programs For Young Adults
 *Make a Mummy for Halloween! Special workshop with Katie Stevenson on Monday, October 29, from 3 to 5 pm for 15 young people in grade 6 and up. Preference is given to Newtown students and residents. These 12-inch plaster desktop mummies will be decorated with glow-in-the-dark paint for an awesome Halloween effect. Supply fee is $5.00. Bring an empty 1-liter plastic bottle and an old shirt. Adult Programs
 *Book Discussions: Upcoming book discussions will include the Daytime Group discussing Saturday by Ewan McEwan on Monday, November 19, at 1 pm; the Evening Book Group talking about Hamletâs Dresser by Bob Smith on Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 pm; and the Nonfiction Book Group discussing An Inconvenient Truth: The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It by Al Gore on Tuesday, November 6, at 1 pm.
 *Searching for Shakespeare: The Series Continues with Othello. Explore Shakespeare the way you did in college but without the research papers, final exams, or any of the stress! The film will be screened in the meeting room but both the lecture and the discussion will take place on the third floor of the library in the Antiques Collection Room.
 *The screening will be Tuesday, November 20, at 7 pm. The lecture, with Dr Mark Schenker from Yale College, will be Tuesday, November 27, at 7 pm. The discussion with retired English teacher Barbara Rudolf will be Thursday, November 29, at 7 pm
 * Kandie Carle will be at the library on Thursday, November 8, at 7 pm to celebrate the Gilded Age, with âThe Victorian Lady: Dressing from Corset to Gloves.â Come learn about customs and costumes of the late 19th Century. Call the library at 426-4533 to reserve a place.
 *Got Stuff? Senior Reference Librarian Anne Killheffer will show you how to uncover the history and value of your antiques and collectibles by using tools at the library and the Internet â cautiously â to dig up valuable information, on Saturday, November 17, at 3 pm. The seminar includes a tour by library staff of the libraryâs 3,000-plus collection of books on antiques and collectibles. Sign up by calling the main desk at 426-4533.
 *Ben Abbott is back! Newtown author Justin Scott will be visiting the library on Sunday, December 9, at 3 pm to share the latest news from Newbury, Conn. Join us for a fun afternoon of mystery and treats.
