For details on tonightâs show, call 270-6717. Cheffieldâs is at 97 South Main Street (Route 25) in Newtown, and there is no cover to get in for the music.
*Tickets for a concert by THE STEVE MILLER BAND later this month at Foxwoods Casinoâs Fox Theatre start at $66. They are also available for $82.50. Miller and his band will be in Ledyard on October 22. Showtime is 9 pm. For reservations, call the theatreâs box office at 800/200-2882 or go through any TicketMaster outlet.
*The tickets for STING at the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford next month are also in the upper price range. Going on sale Saturday morning, Stingâs price range starts at $48 and goes to $128, and thatâs before any box office service charges are tacked on.
YES is also coming to the Oakdale, on November 28. Those tickets will be available next weekend, on October 16 at 10 am. The band will then be at Foxwoods Casino in Ledyard on November 27. Finally for the Oakdale this week, MEGADETH headlines on November 23, but no ticket details are available yet.
*A few new shows have been added to the calendar for Mohegan Sunâs Wolf Den, including a free (which means itâs for me!) show by THE B-52âS on November 11. Also in Uncasville will be SURVIVOR, November 12, and BLUE OYSTER CULT on November 13.
*City Limits has more shows on its schedule as well. Eighties rock band RATT will be at the Waterbury club on October 20; THE BUZZCOCKS headline on October 22, with opening sets by THE LUNACHICKS and DOWN BY LAW; S.O.D. is at the club October 23, with CROW BAR, SKIN LAB and UNDERMIND all opening; and GWAR is there November 6, with THE MISFITS supporting.
*Good news for Bob Marley fans: Later this month (October 26, to be exact), Island Records will be releasing Bob Marley: A Rebelâs Dream. The album is one of those tribute, with a number of artists from different veins will be performing songs by the late reggae superstar.
In December, a special concert honoring Marley will be hosted by island Records founder Chris Blackwell at Orcabessa Bay in Jamaica. The concertâs lineup already includes the likes of LAURYN HILL, SHERYL CROW, ERYKAH BADU, SEAL, SARAH McLACHLAN, ZIGGY MARLEY AND THE MELODY MAKERS and Marleyâs widow, RITA MARLEY, among others. âThe Bob Marley All-Star Tribute,â part of TNTâs Master Series, will then be broadcast on the cable station on December 19. The concert will be released on video and DVD at a later date.
*Finally this week, Tuxedo Junction in planning something special for that other holiday this month. Because schools will be closed on Monday, October 11 for Columbus Day, the nightclub has planned a No Alcohol High School Dance Party for Sunday, October 10. No one over the age of 18 will be admitted into the club that night, and of course no alcohol will be served. All area teens are invited, not just Danbury residents.
