Nighthawk Cross Country Teams Sweep The Competition At Wolfe Park’s Great Hollow Lake

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' cross country teams swept the competition in a meet at Masuk of Monroe's scenic home course, the trails around Wolfe Park's Great Hollow Lake, on September 24.

The girls bested Joel Barlow of Redding 17-50, and defeated both Masuk and Brookfield by 15-50 scores. The boys edged Barlow 26-29, topped Masuk 15-50, and defeated Brookfield 21-40.

Emily Tressler led the way in the girls' race in a time of 21:14. Rylee Harrell (22:00) and Hallie Filan (22:31) followed and gave Newtown the top three finishers. Maddie Fetchick was fifth in 22:55, Emily Litke sixth in 23:00, Courtney Henchcliffe seventh in 23:26, Gloria Rowley eighth in a time of 23:32, and Chloe Karnas tenth in 23:37.

Nick Jacobs was Newtown's fastest runner in the boys' race, completing the course in 18:08, finishing runner-up to Brookfield's Jadon Parris (17:59). Joel Barlow took the second and third spots, but Newtown clocked in with the fifth- through seventh-place finishers. William Tainter-Gilbert came across the finish line in 18:57, Jack Kuligowski finished in 19:01, and Drew Poseno finished in 19:09..
