Maybe They Aren’t Crazy

To the Editor:

I am not one to write political letters. I am a registered Republican, but I vote my conscience and cross party lines when I feel it necessary. I understand that it is common for parties especially in small town elections to endorse candidates from the opposing party, but when I took a look at the ballot for this election I was a bit surprised. I am not one to completely understand politics but in this country we typically have two major parties, Republican and Democrat, with an occasional Independent. Now if you look at the ballot posted on the Newtown website, both the Republican and Democratic candidates running for the Board of Finance positions are identical. Is that the best ticket they could come up with? Where are the choices? Do they think we are just going to vote the party line and not notice that half of the candidates they want us to vote for are from another party? I don’t really know what to make of it.

Maybe the IPN have a point when they feel they are up against an “old guard.” Maybe the IPN aren’t as crazy and paranoid as the Republicans and Democrats of this town would like us to believe. I know many of the candidates running on the IPN ticket and they are intelligent, hardworking individuals who believe we deserve a better Newtown. If you want to vote for Republicans and Democrats working together maybe you should take a look at true bipartisanship and check out the IPN website www.independentpartyofnewtown.com. You just might be pleasantly surprised!
