Joseph E.    O’Connor

Joseph Edward O’Connor, 84, of Simsbury died April 16 at his home.

Better known to his friends as Ward, he was a former Newtown resident and served on the town’s Planning & Zoning Board.

Mr O’Connor was born on April 8, 1919, in Green Bay, Wis. He is survived by two daughters, Judy and Pat, as well as four sons, Terry, Greg, Jeff, and Tim, who came together from as far away as Taiwan and as close as Woodbury to share his memory.

He was previously married to Lois Shamper. He also is survived by 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, James, and a cousin, Mary Taylor, both of Green Bay.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Mr O’Connor taught Dale Carnegie classes and was active in Boy Scouts and Little League when his children were growing up.

At his request, there will be no services and his ashes will be scattered on his favorite ski slope in Colorado. Memorial donations may be made to St Mary’s Church, 940 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070.

Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury was in charge of the arrangements.
