Business name: Oak Barrel Wine & Spirits

Address: 75 Church Hill Road

Owner: Ted Bouzakis, Elias Bouzakis, and Costas Bouzakis

Background: Ted Bouzakis and his brothers and partners, along with a childhood friend John Gagis, always dreamed of opening a business together. Figuring that great wines and spirits would always be a staple in any economy, they decided to open a growing chain of liquor stores, with their first being adjacent to highly traveled Interstate 84 just off Exit 10 in a bright and brand new shopping plaza (their second location on Colt Highway in Farmington is also opened under the same name).

Business focus: Mr Bouzakis said he and his partners had a goal to operate one of if not the most conveniently located wine and spirit shops in the area, with a significant focus on wines and specialty liquors that local patrons find hard to locate. The owners also committed to creating a business that is community-centric and that looks to find ways to support local organizations and charities. Mr Bouzakis said in the coming weeks, he and his team will begin identifying local charities and selecting some that will benefit from a portion of their weekly sales. The store is also motivated to employ local residents who know the store’s patrons, and about 25 percent of the store’s floor and stock space will always be reserved for special consumer requests, along with what distributors say are the most popular wines and beverages already being sold in the area. Even the store’s business card touts a catch phrase, “If we don’t have it, we’ll get it,” Mr Bouzakis said. He said the thousands of vehicles that pass through or near the location each week will benefit the business, as it is situated in a highly visible corner of the brightly lit plaza just across from the Blue Colony Diner.

Special promotions: The store is donating beer and wine for an upcoming movie screening of the film Manipulated from Connecticut Director/Writer Matt Berman on October 7, with proceeds benefiting the Edmond Town Hall Renovations Fund to help purchase and install theater equipment.

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10 am to 9 pm; Sunday, 10 am to 6 pm
