The New York Giants think they have quarterback woes? The New York Jets think they have quarterback woes? The Tampa Bay Buccaneers think they have quarterback woes. The Baltimore Ravens think they have quarterback woes?

I have quarterback woes.

Me.

That’s right. I drafted Dan Marino of the Miami Dolphins to be the starting quarterback on my Fantasy Football League team. Sure, he’s 38 going on 100, but he’s a first ballot Hall of Fame guy and I thought he still had life left in him.

To be on the safe side, I drafted Trent Dilfer as my back up. But, see, this was late in the draft and he was about the best (a misnomer, I know) guy left.

And, then, with my last pick I grabbed Akili Smith of the Cincinnati Bengals in case he became a flash in the pan or actually pretty good and I would be able to catch a little lightning in a bottle.

The problem? Marino is hurt, Dilfer is benched probably forever, and Smith can’t seem to find out where Carl Pickens is on the field. In the parlance of the gutter, I am (EXPLETIVE).

So I dip into the free agent pool and find that Steve Buerlein is still available. Yes, I know, it’s like wanting a ham sandwich and finding out there’s only Spam in the house, but the Panthers are scoring points and points are what I need as I fight for a playoff spot.

Go Steve!

CAROLINA (+2.5) at ATLANTA: All I can say is, Buerlein better throw a couple bombs to Mushin Muhammed if he knows what’s good for him. (KH – Panthers; SB – Falcons)

BUFFALO (-3) at BALTIMORE: I’m not sure the Ravens can get any more pathetic than they are. Tony Banks or Stony Case or Scott Mitchell, I think I can QB that team better. (KH – Bills; SB – Ravens)

DALLAS (+3) at INDIANAPOLIS: I am really starting to like these Colts and really starting to regret not drafting Peyton Manning when I had the opportunity. (KH – Colts; SB – Cowboys)

JACKSONVILLE (-12) at CINCINNATI: The Jaguars have been sputtering on offense and I’m not sure I understand why. Even though Fred Taylor has been on the shelf, James Stewart is still a good back and then there is Mark Brunell and Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell. What’s going on down there? (KH – Bengals; SB – Bengals)

SAN DIEGO (+5.5) at KANSAS CITY: The Chiefs should remind themselves they only beat the Ravens last Thursday. The Chargers are a better defensive team. (KH – Chargers; SB – Chargers)

NEW YORK GIANTS (-2.5) at PHILADELPHIA: The Giants should have a let down now that they have scored 31 points and everything seems to be going perfectly. Yep, it’s the perfect time for a let down. (KH – Eagles; SB – Eagles)

CHICAGO (+8.5) at WASHINGTON: The Bears really disappointed me this past week. So did the ‘Skins, for that matter. (KH – Bears; SB – Redskins)

ST. LOUIS (-3) at TENNESSEE: I know this sounds crazy, but the 6-0 Rams will square off with the 5-1 Titans in what could be – urp – a preview of the Super Bowl. Gah, that can’t be right – can it? (KH – Titans; SB – Titans)

CLEVELAND (+10) at NEW ORLEANS: Man, if this ain’t a kick in the pants. The Saints are not only favored, but they are favored by 10 points. TEN! I’ll wager that they have NEVER been favored by that many points EVER. But, hey, this is the Browns we’re talking about. (KH – Browns; SB – Saints)

NEW ENGLAND (-3) at ARIZONA: The Cardinals have been a bit of a disappointment this year while the Patriots have been unbelievably lucky. Who gets the upper hand this week? (KH – Patriots; SB – Cardinals)

MIAMI (no line) at OAKLAND: This Damon Huard dude has proved to be a more than adequate replacement for Marino and, I think, equipped enough to defeat the Raiders. (KH – Dolphins; SB – Raiders)

MINNESOTA (-2.5) at DENVER: Is Jeff George the answer in Minnesota? Well, it sure seems so, right now. (KH – Vikings; SB – Vikings)

TAMPA BAY (-2.5) at DETROIT: The Bucs have one of the best defensives in the league, which is the only thing saving them right now. As bad a QB as Trent Dilfer is, Eric Zeier certainly is not the answer. (KH – Lions; SB – Lions)

Monday Night

SEATTLE (+5.5) at GREEN BAY: It’s the Packers . . . at Lambeau Field . . . on Monday night. Do you need more? (KH – Packers; SB – Packers)

SCOREBOARD

KIM_HARMON          7-7-0                   50-47-3
