The Newtown Tennis Association will be hosting its annual Arthur T. Berlingo Summer Challenge, a 12-week program for friendly, competitive matches.

There will be nine divisions to choose from – women’s advanced singles and doubles; men’s advanced, intermediate and 55 and over singles; women’s intermediate singles and doubles; men’s doubles; and mixed doubles.

Play begins June 13 and concludes on Labor Day weekend.

There is an incentive to play the maximum number of matches as the team that plays the most in its division will compete for the Gil Fong Award and will have their names placed in a drawing for dinner at the Villa Restaurant in Sandy Hook.

Matches are scheduled one per week, but there will be allowances for vacations. It is up to the individuals to set up their matches and phone numbers will be provided on the schedules (the best two out of three sets determines the winner).

Each player or team should bring new balls, with the winner taking the unopened can.

Scores should be reported immediately following the match to the league captain and league captains will report weekly to Wendy Fong at 426-3005 or 1fong@sbcglobal.net. Scores will be posted on the NTA web site at www.ntaweb.com.

Contact Wendy Fong to sign up. Deadline is June 3.
