Kelloggâs Hardwoods won the Weeknite Slo-Pitch Softball League championship recently and had to put a stop to OâGrady/Miller Constructionâs amazing run through the playoffs to do it.
Kelloggâs made it through the winnerâs bracket by beating the B-Division All Stars, 11-8, and Tilford Piano Movers, 9-7. In the win over the All Stars, Chris DâAngelo and Brian Kachur each went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and in the win over Tilford, Kachur and Marc Adams had two hits apiece.
OâGrady/Miller Constructionâs path to the championship began after a loss to the B-Division All Stars, 9-8. From there, OâGrady beat KB Builders (9-5), the B-Division All Stars (13-2), Jimmy Tâs (20-11) and Tilford Piano Movers (17-15) to reach the championship.
In the win over KB, Dave Kingsley went 3-for-4 with a home run while Larry Miller was 3-for-4 with a pair of triples. In the win over the All Stars, Nate Smith had four hits while Tee OâGrady, Kingsley and Carlos had three hits apiece. In the win over Jimmy Tâs, Kingsley, Tom Villa, and Carlos had four hits apiece while OâGrady, Miller, Johnny OâGrady, Brian and Dave Marciniak all had three hits apiece.
In the win over Tilfordâs, OâGrady, Miller, Johnny O, Mike Kirk and Brian had three hits apiece while Carlos belted a homer.
OâGrady/Miller went into the finals realizing it had not beaten Kelloggâs Hardwoods in six years â and had to do it twice in order to win the league title. OâGrady was able to do it once, 12-8, but Kelloggâs claimed the title with a 10-4 win.
In the opener, Kingsley started things off with a bases-clearing double, which fueled a six-run inning. In the sixth, OMC scored another six runs off hits by Marciniak, OâGrady, Kingsley, Miller and Johnny O.
Kelloggâs put on a late run, scoring five runs in the final two innings, but it wasnât enough.
In the second game, however, Kelloggâs claimed the title with a 10-4 win. Kelloggâs opened with a six-run inning off hits from George Matern, Scott Terrill, Doug Rose, Corbo, Kachur and DâAngelo. Corbo, Rose, Matern and DâAngelo had three hits apiece and Chris Dennis was walked three times.
For OMC, Carlo had two hits.
