A group of students at Newtown High School recently created the Newtown Crew Club, hoping to raise awareness of rowing in the community and to get people to give the sport a try. Newtown Crew’s founding members include Constantine Gregoire, Anthony Vournazos, Patrick Berger, and Dayna Briante. All of the founding members are sophomores at the high school and currently row at GMS Rowing Club in New Milford. The adult advisor to Newtown Crew is Kristin English, who teaches English at the high school.

On September 29, Gregoire, Vournazos, and Berger competed in the Tail of the Fish regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY. The regatta was a 3,200 meter course on the Hudson River. Gregoire raced in the junior boys doubles 2xB event with Kyle Onarato of Brookfield and placed second with a time of 13:11 and Vournazos, in the junior boys 2xA event raced with Dan Aratto of Oxford and placed fourth with a time of 13:14. Berger competed in the freshman boys 2x event, racing with Conor Donadio of New Milford and came in first with a time of 13:58.
