What Is A ‘Kid’?

To the Editor:

I noticed your advertisement by the Million Mom March in the 10/27/2000 issue of The Newtown Bee in which they claim that 10 “kids” were killed by guns today. I think that if you are going to so prominently display such an ad, you should either insist on some intellectual honesty or include an article addressing the ad.

Chief among my concerns is, what exactly is a “kid”? Does the Million Mom March categorize all people under 20 years old, including street thugs and military cadets, as “kids”? Next, how many existing laws were broken in the process of these “kids” being killed? Finally, how many “kids” were killed today in car accidents, medical mistakes, and drowning in buckets of water.
