ED INK: For State Representative
In the three assembly districts that include parts of Newtown, there is really
only one race. The three-way contest in the 112th has brought together
Democrat Andrew Nunn, a marketing manager, Patricia Shea, a relocation expert,
and Kenneth Young, a food retailer, each vying for the seat being vacated by
Republican William Varese.
Of these three, Mr Nunn represents the best choice for the 112th District. His
service on the Monroe Town Council has given him a working knowledge of the
kinds of local problems that require state help. His commitment to educational
excellence, tax reform, and to a measured approach to solving Route 25's
traffic problems are in accord with the best interests of the people of
Newtown and the 112th District.
There is no question that Republican Julia Wasserman should be returned to
office in the 106th District. The evolution of Fairfield Hills from state
mental hospital to new uses compatible with Newtown has been her priority in
Hartford, and those issues are reaching a critical stage. We need her
continued involvement.
John Stripp, the Republican state representative in the 135th District, is
running unopposed this year, which appears to be an endorsement in itself by
the people and political leaders of both parties in his district.
