Saperstein Diabetes Lecture

DANBURY — The Stanley Saperstein, MD, and Eleanor L. Saperstein Diabetes Mellitus Complications Educational Endowment in conjunction with the Danbury Hospital Department of Medicine and the Western Connecticut Endocrine and Diabetes Center will present “Type II Diabetes — A Focus on Cardiovascular Disease” on Tuesday, April 19. The program will take place from 7 to 9 pm at the Danbury Hospital auditorium in The John C. Creasy Center for Health Education, 24 Hospital Avenue.

The special program is the fourth annual lecture presented by the Saperstein Educational Endowment, and is dedicated to helping people understand the factors leading to diabetes and prevent complications associated with this disease.

Attendees will learn about the factors that contribute to the onset of diabetes and diabetes complications; gain insight into related health issues about the heart, endothelium kidneys and blood pressure; and hear the experts and get answers to questions.

There will be health displays and light refreshments.

Topics to be covered include Endothelium: The Key to Vascular Health; Obesity & Diabetes: Twin Epidemics; Type I & Type II Diabetes: The Same Disease or Different?; Insulin Resistance: Understanding Type II Diabetes; Diabetic Kidney Disease; Type II Diabetes & Obesity: Epidemic of the 21st Century; Diabetes Control & Complications; and Heart Attacks & the Onset of Diabetes: How & How Soon Should We Intervene?

Speakers include Stanley Saperstein, MD, nephrology/hypertension (moderator), Howard Garfinkel, MD, chief, nephrology and hypertension; Ronald Raymond, MD, cardiology; Robert Ruxin, MD, internal medicine; and Robert Savino, DO, chief, endocrinology and metabolism.
