Backpack Program Still On Track
Backpack Program Still On Track
To the Editor,
Newtown Junior Womenâs Club wanted to take this opportunity to assure the Newtown community that the changes that are taking place at Newtown Social Services will not affect the delivery of the Back-to-School Backpack program which is already well under way for the fall 2003 school year.
Newtown Junior Womenâs Club provides the Back-to-School Backpack program, just one of our many community-based programs. We raise funds, order the supplies and assemble the backpacks, which we then deliver to Newtown Social Services each August. This is our sixth year with this program and we will supply approximately 140 Newtown children in grades K-12 with high quality school supplies in an effort to help ensure the academic success of students whose families find themselves in difficult financial situations.
Newtown has many groups of volunteers like Newtown Junior Womenâs Club who work through social services and are generously supported by this community and with the able assistance of Ann Picini who has been a social services employee for 15 years, we will continue to help serve the needs of this wonderful community.
Sincerely,
Anna L. Wiggers
