Garden Club Planning Flower Show

SOUTHBURY — In September, Southbury Garden Club will host A Standard Flower Show, “Celebrating Southbury — It’s A Wonderful Town.’

The show will be at Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road, on Friday, September 14, from 2 to 5 pm, and Saturday, September 15, from 9:30 am to 2 pm.

A Standard Flower Show includes design and horticulture entries as well as special exhibits. The floral designs will focus on various aspects of Southbury. Designs, inspired by paintings from the Heritage Village Brush and Pencil Club, will include “Picnics in Settlers Park,” “Books from the New Library,” “Underwater Designs Reminiscent Of The Bent of the River, and “The 3 R’s,” honoring Bullet Hill School.

The Horticulture entries will include “Flowers that Linger in Southbury” (perennials), “In Southbury Only Briefly” (annuals), “Small Southbury Gardens” (plants in containers), “A Rose is a Rose,” “Buried Treasure” (bulbs, corms and tubers), “A Farming Community” (vegetables), and “A Tree City” (trees and shrubs).

Local residents are encouraged to enter the Horticulture display, and entries will be accepted on Thursday between 1 and 4 pm and Friday between 8:30 and 9:45 am. For horticulture entry inquiries, call Sue Breen at 264-3896.

Educational exhibits will include Pressed Flowers and The Herb Garden at the Bent of the River.
