New A Support & Information Group for Parents of Substance-Abusing Teens – NO FEE. Starts Thursday, October 11, 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Youth Services.

Support Group for Parents of Children with Learning Differences. Whether you child has a special learning need, physical challenge or chronic illness, emotional challenge or ADD, this group offers support and skill building. Meetings are Monday mornings - bimonthly - 9:30 to 11 am; next meeting is Oct 1.

Fathers’ Nights are underway. Next meeting is October 15 from 7:30 to 9 pm. Fathers have special relationships with their children. Come find out why these evenings get rave reviews.

“Media and Violence: The Tie That Binds” this timely program will be held on Thursday, October 18, 7 pm, in the Newtown High School Lecture Hall. Dr Dorothy Singer, PhD, co-director of the Family and Television Research and Consultation Center, Yale University, is the facilitator. This presentation is free but you must register in advance

Youth Programs

SibShops starting. Free support group for siblings of children with special needs. Meeting the second Thursday of every month, next meeting is October 11, 5:30 to 7:30 pm – pizza served.

Super Sitters’ Babysitting Classes

The next session will be accelerated and will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, December 4, 6, 11, 13, and 18. The classes meet from 4 to 5:30 pm and the cost is $35. This class is almost full so please call to register as soon as possible.

 

4-H

Elementary School, Monday from 3:15 to 4:30 pm; Middle School, Wednesday from 4 to 5:15 pm. Please call for info. As long as the Youth Garden grows – 4H will be meeting there (on the grounds of Fairfield Hills).

 

Mind Body Spirit

Students in grades 6-8 will develop flexibility, balance, concentration, and awareness emphasizing kindness to self and others. Using elements of Pa Kua, T’ai Chi and other systems Master Ch’en will tailor the class to meet the abilities and interests of the students.

Classes have begun and continue on October 1, 15, 22, 29, November 5 and 19 from 4 to 5 pm. This is a free program presented by Master CH Ch’en and Deborah Chen.

New Children of Divorce

Support groups for grades 6-8 on Mondays, 6 to 7 pm, and for Elementary Students on Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

Help your children through this emotional time in their lives. Groups began this week of September 24. Call to register.

 

New I Am Beautiful

Girls are cordially invited to attend two-part evening workshops each month to discuss and learn about issues that are important to them. Grades 6-8, Tuesdays, October 2 and October 9. Grades 9-12, Thursdays, October 4 and October 11, both from 6:30 to 8 pm at Youth Services. Call to register.

 

Youth Group Meetings

The HS YAB will meet next on Monday, October 29, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

The MS YAB’s next meeting will be on Wednesday, October 10, at Newtown Youth Services, from 4 to 5 pm.

NYCAAP meets on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm.

Family Bikes, Boards, & Blades Day – October 21 (rain date is October 28, noon – 3pm; $7/adults, $5/youth (13 & under). Four Bike routes, skateboard and rollerblading areas. Food stops! Registration is on the grounds of Fairfield Hills (Look for signs). A Day of Family Fun and Exercise!
