Sexual Assault

Police said they served an arrest warrant against Daniel T. Hayes, 37, of 8 Woodbine Lane on August 30, charging him with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.

Police said Hayes' arrest follows an investigation they conducted after a complaint was made to police concerning Hayes' contact with a child under 16.

Police provided no other details on the nature of the case.

Police held Hayes on a $200,000 bond for an August 31 appearance in Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on the charges. Hayes' court case was continued to September 14.

Disorderly

Police said they charged Charles Dorey, 30, of 159 Huntingtown Road with disorderly conduct on the night of August 30 at that address following a dispute which Dorey had with another person who rents an apartment there. Police released Dorey on bond for a September 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Probation Charge

Police arrested John Velsor, 54, of Wallingford on a warrant August 30, charging him with violation of probation. Police said they went to the Hartford Correctional Center to serve the warrant against Velsor. The warrant stems from a September 2000 incident involving charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right, police said. Police released Velsor on a $100 bond for a September 13 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Bonnie Brae

Police report that motorist Nicholas Jordan, 16, who was driving a Chevrolet C-1500 station wagon about 10 pm August 24, turned into a driveway on Bonnie Brae Lane in order to turn around, and in doing so he struck a small decorative wall there. There were no injuries. Police issued Jordan an infraction ticket on a charge of unsafe backing.

Rear-Ender

Police report that motorist Barbara Freuler, 48, of 22 Walnut Tree Hill Road was driving a 1993 Mercury Villager minivan northbound on South Main Street and was approaching that street's intersection with Mile Hill Road about 8:15 pm August 23, when Freuler struck the rear end of a northbound 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Keith Cheh, 34, of 11 Middleton Road.

There were no injuries. Police issued Freuler a written warning for failure to drive a safe distance apart.

Bad Checks

Police report that Patrick Sinchak, 32, of Bridgeport turned himself in at the police station September 1 after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest on two counts of issuing a bad check.

After pressing the charges against Sinchak, police released him on a $100 bond for a September 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Georgia-Pacific

Police said they received a report about 9 am August 31 concerning an attempted burglary at the Georgia-Pacific lumber terminal at 201 South Main Street.

Someone had cut a hole in the back fence at the lumberyard, but nothing was reported missing from the premises, police said.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact them. The case involves criminal mischief and criminal trespassing.

BMW Crash

Motorist Reid Ferris, 21, of Old Farm Hill Road was driving a 2000 BMW sedan northbound on Old Green Road September 1 when he attempted to turn left onto Horseshoe Ridge Road, but in doing so he slid across the two roads' intersection and went onto a grassy area, striking a utility pole, police said. The pole broke into several pieces, police said. Ferris was not injured, police said. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Intersection Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Sugar Street and Main Street about 4:20 pm August 27.

Motorist Mark C. Bjorken, 49, of 49 High Rock Road, who was driving a 1989 Chevrolet CV-3100 pickup truck southbound on Main Street, collided with motorist Pat Farrison, 36, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord eastbound on Sugar Street, police said.

Bjorken had attempted to stop the truck, but slid on wet pavement before striking the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Bjorken an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to obey a traffic signal. Police also issued Bjorken a written warning for having defective brakes.

Sunset Crashes

Police report that motorist Leslie Lindy, 43, of 15 Lazy Brook Road, who was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Passat, was stopped on the westbound shoulder of Mt Pleasant Road about 7 pm September 2 due to a blinding setting sun, which hampered driving visibility.

Westbound motorist Randy Rosin, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 1996 Ford pickup truck, was also affected by the brilliance of the setting sun and struck the rear end of the parked Volkswagen, police said.

 Shortly thereafter, westbound motorist Cecilia Amaral, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, hit an open door on the Volkswagen and also slightly sideswiped Lindy, who was standing between the open door and the Volkswagen, police said.

Newtown Hook and Ladder firemen went the scene. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the accident but made no transport.

Lindy experienced minor aches and pains, police said. Police said they took no enforcement action.

Warrant Rearrest

Police report they served a rearrest warrant against Brendan Wark, 18, of 25 Underhill Road on September 1, listing charges of failure to appear in court and disorderly conduct in connection with a July 2 incident.

Police released Wark on a $5,000 bond for a September 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Crash

 Police said motorist Robert Mullin, 16, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1992 GMC Sierra pickup truck, was waiting to enter traffic on South Main Street about 2 pm August 25.

The truck then entered the road and struck a northbound 2000 Toyota Camry driven by Robert Pitcher, 81, of 15 Park Lane, police said. There were no injuries, police said.

Police issued Mullin an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way._

Warrant Served

Police said they served a rearrest warrant against Eric Carlson, 45, of 10 Taunton Lake Drive on August 31, listing charges of second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, and failure to keep to the right on a curve.

The motor vehicle charges stem from an incident early on the morning of July 1 on Mt Pleasant Road, near Blackman Road, police said.

Police released Carlson on a $2,500 bond for a September 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Escape Charge

State police said Anna Colon, 34, of Hartford left the Daytop substance abuse treatment center at Greenwich House at 1 Third Street at Fairfield Hills without permission on September 3. The state Department of Correction had sent Colon to the facility, state police said.

Following a search, Colon was located, state police said. State police charged her with first-degree escape. State police held Colon for a September 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Simple

Trespassing

State police report they charged three Newtown youths with simple trespassing at Fairfield Hills about 10:20 pm September 2. There was no damage in connection with the incident, state police said.

Charged were William Simmons, 17, of 7 Old Tavern Road; Christopher Dinoto, 17, of 1 Whitewood Road; and Jeffrey King, 16, of 19 Ashford Lane, state police said. State police said they issued infraction tickets to the three youths. Such charges carry $77 fines, or may be challenged in court.

Flagpole Collision

Police report a two-car accident near the Main Street flagpole about 3 pm September 1.

Police said motorist Katherine Turcotte, 17, of Monroe, who was driving a 1990 Volvo 240 sedan, was westbound on Church Hill Road and planning to turn left around the flagpole and head southbound on Main Street.

At that time, motorist Erin Carolan, 17, of 22 Horseshoe Ridge Road, who was driving a 1997 Acura CL-2 coupe, was traveling northbound on Main Street, police said.

 The Volvo pulled into the intersection, resulting in a collision with the Acura, police said.

 There were no injuries. Police issued Turcotte a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
